The Village
The Village' proposal for the White Bay Power Station has been developed utilising an overlay of the most fundamental components of pre-historic and current human civilisations. The idea is to mimic the general dispersion of ‘settlements’ (programs) around a central gathering space to encourage a web of circulation throughout the ‘village’. This dynamic flow will be enhanced by the penetration of sunlight within a large morphological shell.
A new forecourt entry will guide patrons towards the ground level of the White Bay Power Station towards an arena of clustered civic community programs. Fundamentally, the effect is to bridge the gap between Rozelle’s idiosyncratic residential and industrial waterfront by utilising the heritage shell as a transient passageway between the two districts. This will in turn act as a ‘fourth place’ for both the local and international community to gather, learn and reflect.
