Maatriks combines renewable energy production and environmental sustainability and places it in a community setting. Through the process of phytoremediation, plants that thrive in contaminated soils are able to improve soil conditions overtime and the biomass produced as a result will be har-vested and used as the main source in bioenergy production. Co-benefits of the process focus on optimising the people that use the site, improving environmental issues and increasing the profitability of the site and local community.
The design approach aligns with a saying of the Indigenous Aboriginal people of Western Australia “To touch the earth lightly” a plea for man not to disturb nature any more than necessary.
