GUNYA

GUNYA is the word for ‘MEETING PLACE’ in the Aboriginal language, and this theme of familial space and connection is interpreted in the project design.The civic centre ‘GUNYA’ was created with the intention of educating the population about the reality of Aboriginal history that was marred with DISCRIMINATION, CORRUPTION, ABUSE AND DEATH. The architectural concept is intertwined with ideas and concepts prevalent in traditional ABORIGINAL SYMBOL ART, a method used in the Aboriginal culture to communicate a STORY. The GUNYA space is to allow people a glimpse into the experiences of PRE - POST TERRA NULLIUS.
