The First Nations

In the 21st Century’s urban environment of La Perouse, the region is culturally diverse, filled with rich history; however, there is a disconnect between the Traditional Owners of the Land and the rest of the community. The project proposes regeneration, reclamation and reconciliation of Indigenous culture and stories towards this disconnect through the adaptive re-use of the site. The notion of Indigenous Dreamtime storytelling will run as the motif; with spaces created as opportunities to communicate through various mediums (songs, dance, art, rituals, ceremonies and narration). This is further expressed through Indigenous influenced design, noted as the ‘Second Skin’, which challenge and form within the existing colonial architecture.
