BARE cultural precinct

Bare Cultural Precinct is a space that celebrates cultural diversity within La Perouse and the greater Sydney area. One third of this cultural hub is of Aboriginal descent, whilst the other two thirds are made up of a magnitude of differing cultures. Through the inclusion of an outdoor gathering space, museum, restaurant and a public library, Bare Cultural Precinct enables the community to come together in an inclusive environment.

The master planning of the site has been influenced by traditional urban planning concepts that draw on the fundamental need of a ‘town centre’. This idea of a central gathering space has been implemented into the design of the site with strong pathways and site lines diverging from there.

To achieve harmony in a multicultural society means to erase racial discrimination- this is acknowledged every year on March 21st in a celebration known as Harmony Day. This idea of 'harmony' has been directly translated into the design of the buildings through the creation of a harmonious relationship between old and new architecture. Forms and patterns from the existing buildings have been intricately weaved throughout the new structures to create a dialogue between the buildings, not dissimilar to the intertwining of cultures and identities on the site.
