Symbiocene

The Symbiocene project challenges visitors to critically engage with the idea of sustainability. Since industrialisation, humankind has asserted its supposed dominance on the planet, with little regard for consequence. But there is a growing acceptance that all living systems exist in symbiosis, and the health and vitality of each are inextricably bound. We must look to existing indigenous and emerging sustainable technologies for direction on how to move towards a positive and productive future, for the mutual benefit of all living systems on earth.

The project contains three distinct spaces that support this process of engagement and education:
- The Mana is a welcoming & inclusive community space, designed to connect the constituent communities of La Perouse and support indigenous connection to country
- The Symbiocene museum challenges visitors, taking them out of the everyday and immersing them in new ideas and ways of seeing the world
- The Wallum Reflection Garden is a calming, protected and meditative space, designed to allow these new ideas to synthesise and settle
