The proposal for the redevelopment of La Perouse was generated by the need to create a connection between people and the existing buildings. Unlike Central Sydney, La Perouse struggles to attract attention and struggles to create return visitors. It is a one and done location. The repurposing of the existing structures will increase social interaction, improve Sydney’s dying nightlife, increase tourism and increase building use. Proposed uses include an exhibition space, a lookout, bar, eateries, breakout zones and an area for creative workshop. ‘Divertir’ means to entertain. Ultimately, La Perouse will become an entertainment quarter for people who wish to enjoy the offerings of Sydney at any hour. Throughout the entertainment quarter, the programming and design creates spaces that encourage social interaction between the site’s stakeholders and reflection of the site’s significance to Australia.
