Wallama

Wellama (meaning to return or come back in Gadigal) is an immersive Indigenous cultural awareness hub with a strong focus on healing past traumas and strengthening cultural awareness, whilst providing civic facilities to bring awareness to and foster understanding of the original
inhabitants of Memel.

Indigenous Australians were semi-nomadic hunter gatherers with a strong spiritual connection to the land. Since colonisation their rich cultural traditions, language, music, ceremonies and ways of life have slowly been erased by government intervention, which included over 20,000 massacres, forced denial of culture and a denial of the historical truth of injustice and atrocities of human rights.

The ideas surrounding the design concepts are based on the rich cultural history of Indigenous Australian aboriginals, land is second skin with profound ancestral and personal relationships and connection with place.
