Rewild
Rewild
(v.) process of restoring what’s been lost.
REWILD aims to restore appreciation for the natural landscape and marine environment and to build an informed and enthusiastic public that supports the conservation of local ecosystems.
The local marine environment serves significance to both the immediate and the 21st-century urban communities through its intrinsic value to the health and wellbeing of all Australians. Natural landscapes and seascapes accommodate for spaces for relaxation, recreation and connection with nature and for Indigenous communities, it also facilitates for a spiritual, cultural and social kinship to their Sea Country. However there is a pressing need to educate the broad community on the human impacts on the marine environment and natural landscape and the urgency for an improved collective stewardship towards these habitats.
REWILD frames La Perouse’s existing vistas to introduce unexplored manners of perceiving the natural environment. Textures and shapes inspired by landscapes, seascapes and waste materials detrimental to these habitats are translated into the existing and proposed interiors to embed a perpetual sense of the natural environments into individuals’ use and engagement within each space.
