Common Grounds

‘Common Grounds’ is a project proposal focused around developing a multi-cultural and socially empowering precinct at La Perouse Headland + Bare Island. The intention of the site development is to connect and integrate community initiatives; a concept that stems from research into the site’s critical historic gravity which significantly influenced diversity in our Australian society.

Reflecting notions of the site’s cultural and social history, the program proposal reinterprets past usage and translates it through a contemporary lens into relevant typologies for the current society.

‘Common Grounds’ incorporates two interweaved typologies which encompasses active public spaces and passive private spaces. The public spaces eventuate through interactive and immersive community spaces, exploring ideas of artefact exposure and sampling. The private spaces transpire through transformational architectural injections, exploring flexible spatial design and adaptive re-use of joinery.

‘Common Grounds’ is about unifying cultures into an involved Australian society who are receptive to connecting existing community initiatives through awareness, support and education.
