YURA

Yura- Derives from the word eora, meaning aboriginal people of new south wales. Yura is an aboriginal arts and culture hub with a futuristic twist. This redevelopment of the la perouse precinct aims to immerse visitors in a transitional, interactive journey to a realisation and appreciation of aboriginal culture.

Visitors of the site will be guided in a specific journey which is designed to gradually nurture their understanding of aboriginal culture. The spatial sequence grows in intensity as visitors progresses through the site, ultimately ending with a burst of creative collaboration with the aboriginal arts. With exhibits of auditory elements and shared collaborations in artistic expressions, the spatial sequence transitions from subtle sensorial experiences to realised perceptions of an intense cultural phenomenon.

The programs introduced to the site plays a role in progressively building visitor's understanding of the aboriginal culture. Aboriginal art in different forms such as audios, videos, paintings and digital mediums will be used to express their culture. This is then accompanied by the spatial design which creates the immersive environment, expressing aboriginal art. Ultimately, yura aims to nurture growth between the aboriginal community and the world for future generations to come.
