District 24.7

DISTRICT 24.7 is an extensive revitalisation of the La Perouse Headland and Bare Island. The deliberate typologies of gallery, community and recreational spaces enables this site to be used at all hours without limiting its activities to certain ages or stereotypes. Driven by the lack of venues within Sydney that are considered ‘up-late’ or available 24 hours a day, the headland and island provide an outlet for a growing and evolving community both in the local La Perouse area and greater area. Sydney is currently engaged in a constant battle between the controversial Lock Out Laws and our economical and societal need to function as a global city operating in a 24hr world. As a site previously grounded solely in the day this reworking of use allows the site to broaden itself to the deepest hours of the night. Orientated to work with the natural form of the site with a purposeful use of light and path creates a precinct that functions as its own community linked through a central digital system powering an all hours restaurant, co-working and exhibition space.
